The inaugural CrossFit Auckland Tasman Trespasser Challenge in 2009 was dedicated to Colin Quincey the first man to row solo across the Tasman sea. The event was a huge hit with 88 CrossFit Auckland members and guests participating in the team challenge along side Shaun Quincey who rowed the 63km solo in preparation for his world record attempts.
Shaun has since been successful at adding three World Records to his belt: Fastest 500km Erg Row, Fastest Tasman Solo Crossing, and First person to row from Australia to New Zealand. Congratulations Shaun!
The 63km ergometer challenge is now an annual event in celebration of BIG Dreams and Inspirational Challenges. Last year was a blast with teams being made up of teenagers, novice first time rowers (many brand new members to our club), and well seasoned athletes from surf life saving and rowing clubs. We plan to grow the event each year; thank you Kristin School for sponsoring the use of your gym hall so we can increase the 22 rowers we squeezed into CrossFit Auckland last year!
