CrossFit Auckland Sponsored Athlete

Shaun Quincey – Tasman Trespasser II

Shaun Q is a CrossFit Auckland athleteIn September 2009 Shaun will undertake a World Record attempt – a million meters in under 128hrs ergometer row.  Which incidentally is just his warm up to the challenge of a lifetime in November when Shaun will row solo from Aussie to NZ! If successful Shaun will follow his father as the only other person to cross the Tasman solo.  View More

As part of his preparation for the physical and mental challenges he will face, Shaun is training as a sponsored athlete of CrossFit Auckland up to five days per week to raise his level of general physical preparedness.  Beyond everyday functionality, CrossFit will help ensure Shaun’s body runs as efficiently as possible – all the right muscles working and firing in the right sequence. Shaun’s needs will differ from the normal CrossFitter in that we will adjust his training to the longer duration work required of him. More emphasis is placed on Strength-Endurance, Cardiovascular and Respiratory Endurance, Stamina and Recovery!

A Typical Training Week for Shaun Quincey…

When not at CrossFit Auckland, Shaun trains at home“I visit a Chiropractor twice a week and see the Physio once per week for sore bits and pieces. To break the current world million meter record I need to maintain sub 2:33min per 500 meter splits for 17 hours a day for 5 days. My Dietitian Rebbecca Yortt has estimated I will consume between 9,500 and 10,000 calories per day to sustain the effort and be drinking between 6 and 10 liters’ of water and isotonic sports drink per day.” says Shaun.

“I believe my biggest challenge will be general wear and tear such as blisters and chafing and it will also be a true test of my will to succeed the world record.”

    Hi All

Hard email to write, last night at 8pm after dicussions with my support crew including a paramedic and doctor i decided to withdraw from the million meter world record attempt at 809kms.

The combination of sleep deprivation / a minor tear in my chest mussel and general fatigue after 6 hours sleep over 5 days certainly took its toll. When looking at the positives i like to look at the fact that i achieved 81% of the million and broke the 500km record on the way there.

Thanks again for all of your support.
