Some of Bernie’s highlights
Bernie Murch played most sports as a child growing up, representing B.O.P in women’s soccer and Auckland in Women’s Rugby, gaining selection to trial for the Black Ferns. It wasn’t until her mid twenties that ‘Outrigger Canoe Paddling’ became a passion which lead to National Titles in Sprint racing during 2002 and 2010.
Bernie studied at Hamilton Teachers College gaining a Diploma in Primary Teaching (majoring in Physical Education) and then studying further in the field of Early Child Education, here she gained her Diploma in E.C.E. Currently Bernie is the Centre Director in a busy Early Childhood Centre licensed for 95 children and leading a team of 25 teachers.
Bernie is one of the founding members of CrossFit Auckland and has been a regular competitor in CrossFit competition over the years; having now qualified to compete at CrossFit Auckland’s BATTLE OF THE FITTEST, NZ’s top tier CrossFit sport event for 6-years, 2014 being her first year in the Masters category. She was part of the team that successfully won the CrossFit Games Regional Competition in 2010, gaining the right to represent Australasia at the World CrossFit Games that same year. Being a Coach at CrossFit Auckland is not so much about coaching CrossFit but coaching people. It gives me an opportunity to motivate and inspire people of all ages and skill levels to reach their full potential. I like helping people to see beyond what they believe they must accept about themselves and be there when they accomplish something they thought they could never; whether it be their first pull up or ring dip.
I am given the opportunity to help ordinary people do extraordinary things!

I’m a real home body, something that has never really changed in my life! I love catching up and celebrating special occasions with both my family and Petes family, I also enjoy pottering around in my garden and attempting small DYI projects around home.
Participating in Yoga, bush walks and tramps has become more of a regular occurrence for me over the last few years. I find it allows me to reflect and slow down the pace a bit so that I can truly appreciate the small things in life that really do matter the most to me.
Water activities have been a huge pastime over the years and are still a favourite thing to do, most of my holidays have either involved being in or around water. I love fishing, diving, swimming, boogie boarding, paddling or just hanging out at the beach. I’m very fortunate to have my parents live at Waihi Beach so that I can get my regular fix of sun and surf!
