Housekeeping!

Ok, maybe this really isn’t housekeeping. Maybe it’s more of a rant. There, I admitted it.

We love you guys, but here’s how we can love you more, and in turn make this an even better place to pour out our blood, sweat and tears:

  1. Chalk… There is enough, and then there’s too much. About half of us fit into the latter group. Please help preserve some of the wasted chalk, and save us from the extra hour per day of chalk-specific cleaning.  Use some common sense when chalking up – rub your hands inside the bucket. Chalk is used to save hands from ripping and to dry up excessive sweat i.e. you do not need it every time you touch something metal, and chalk on the floor won’t improve your WOD times. In fact, excessive chalk use leads to brittle hands that are more likely to tear!
  2. Don’t drop an empty bar on the ground. Our bars cost a lot of money. No expense has been spared in getting you guys the best toys to play with - these aren’t your typical Les Mills/Rec. Centre grade cheap Chinese barbells. Bars loaded with bumper plates can be dropped, but remember that they bounce - don’t bounce them into someone else!
  3. Clean your DNA off the equipment. If you bleed or sweat on something, ask a Coach to get you hooked up with some good cleaning products. The next person who comes along will appreciate it :)   How about those sweat towels…yeah I’ve heard of them!
  4. DON’T BE LATE!!!! The sessions are intended to be fast paced and dialed in. If people are late our Coaches, at their discretion, may leave you standing to the side to wait while the class goes on without you, to then attend to your “special attention”. Not only is this rude, but it takes the Coach’s attention away from the group and affects the flow of the class. The Coach may even have to modify and dilute the prescription just to get the class finished on time. This is not ideal – please don’t be that arsehole.
  5. Speaking of Coaches… How many are there in a class? One, sometimes two. But more often these days the odd member has talked over the top of our coaches to add their own advice or cues. We appreciate your enthusiasm and passion, but please let the Coaches coach. They’re the experts. Sometimes the advice you give may be correct, and sometimes welcome to the person seeking it, but all too often we hear members giving other members the wrong advice or at the wrong time. If someone needs something please grab a Coach – they’re very good and efficient at what they do, and you can focus on you having a great workout! We absolutely love and applaud the team camaraderie here, so please continue to encourage and motivate each other, but refrain from prescribing Muscle-up progressions or critiqueing the 2nd pull of somebody’s Squat-Clean.
  6. Playing dumb… If you contact us ahead of time and need to change your scheduled class, we can and will accomodate wherever possible – but if you no-show a session please don’t ask to make it up. It’s the same rules for everybody. We’re all grown-ups now, lets be responsible for our actions. You’re no longer a special unique snowflake. Please don’t ask us to have make-up sessions for the time [you forgot/slept in/couldn't be arsed/something less painful came up/someone attractive asked you out] as refusal often offends. I can’t go back in time to sort my shit out either. Suck it up buttercup.

That aside, we LOVE the CrossFit Auckland attitude  – DO NOT CHANGE IT! – Every single man, woman and child at our box is up for it! We thank you for that. Sincerely. It gets us up in the morning. It turns us on.

Enjoy your rest. See you in the week. Any questions or comments, drop it on us ;)
